FBIU Warns Students Against Examination Misconduct

Franco-British International University (FBIU) Kaduna, has organized a sensitization lecture on examination misconduct as part of an effort to enlighten students on the dangers associated with the illegal act and promote academic integrity.

The event, which took place at the Ali Dauda Hall on Tuesday, was designed to equip students with a deeper understanding of the consequences of examination misconduct and encouraging ethical behavior during assessments.

In his opening remarks, the Registrar of the University, Mr. Agwaza Bemdow, urged students of the university to uphold integrity as a cardinal virtue in their academic journey.

He explained the consequences of examination malpractice, warning that such acts not only jeopardize academic careers but also undermine the credibility of educational institutions.

In his address, the Acting Dean, Students’ Affairs, Mr. Abdullahi Ibrahim Mirnga, highlighted some common offences students commit during examinations, such as impersonation, smuggling in unauthorized materials, and communicating during examinations.

According to him, “The most important aspect of academia is the examination. It is a measure of knowledge, not a loophole to exploit.”

Also speaking at the occasion, the Acting Director, Academic Planning and Quality Assurance, Dr. Auwalu Lawal Dan Buzu, provided insight into the university’s grading system.

He shed light on the implications of carryovers, their cumulative effect on CGPA, and the importance of possessing valid ID and examination cards.

His presentation offered students a clearer picture of how academic performance is evaluated and recorded.

In their separate remarks, the Acting Dean, School of Social and Management Sciences, Dr. Rahama Umar Ibrahim; a faculty member, Dr. Rayya Umar; and another faculty member, Mr. Abdullahi Garba, emphasized the need for discipline, focus, and sincerity in all academic engagements.

They appealed to students to cultivate a habit of regular study and to shun all forms of misconduct during examinations.

In his closing remarks, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Abdullahi Sabo Muhammad, cautioned students against arriving late to examination venues.

He also warned students against the habit of defacing university property by writing on walls, examination tables and other places.

He reminded the students that character is as important as competence in building a successful academic and professional future.

There was also a question and answer session where students enthusiastically participated, raising pertinent questions that sought for clarifications on various academic and examination-related issues.

Other staff in attendance during the lecture included Ibrahim Jibril Aliyu, Secretary to the Vice Chancellor and Public Relations Officer, Umar Faruk Tukur, among others.
