Global Doors Open as Alliance Française Engages FBIU Students on Power of Bilingualism

Opportunities on the global stage were presented as Alliance Française engaged students of Franco British International University (FBIU), Kaduna, in an interactive session promoting bilingualism and French language proficiency.

The program titled “The Importance of Learning French as a Language”, was held on Saturday at the Ali Dauda Lecture Hall as part of FBIU ‘s commitment to promoting bilingual education for academic and personal growth.

The event was also designed to enlighten students on the importance of French language and the numerous opportunities students stand to gain after graduation as bilingual.

The idea behind the program was also to give the students some insights on why they should study French as there are a lot of international opportunities awaiting those who graduate as bilingual.

In his opening remarks, the FBIU President, Prof.Abdullahi Muhammad Sabo said the decision to organize the program was aimed at providing students with unique opportunities that will make them stand out in an academic and professional way.

He encouraged students to take the French language with seriousness, stressing the need for them to be bilingual students.

In his address, Director Alliance Française, Kaduna, Mr. Olivier Lin B., gave a brief history of the organization and its mission of promoting French language and culture in the country. 

He urged the students and staff to embrace French as an essential skill for their personal, and professional development. 

Mr. Oliver noted that proficiency in French could open doors to scholarships, international exchange programmes, and employment opportunities in other countries and global organisations.

In their separate remarks, Malama Hafsat Muhammad Salisu, a faculty, and Malam Ahmed N. Mohammed, MAAUN-AISD, team lead, FBIU, delivered an insightful speech on the importance of learning French language.

They also encouraged students to build confidence in speaking, and make the best use of available learning resources, adding that daily exposure is key to gaining fluency over time.

During the session, the participants used the opportunity to ask questions, share insights that further enriched the discussion.

In his closing remarks, the Vice President Administration, Mr. Agwaza Bemdoo, thanked the students for their active participation and appreciated the resource persons for their good presentation.

He reaffirmed the university’s commitment to supporting more of such sensitisation programs for the benefit of students.
