Shehu Sani Speaks at FBIU Human Rights Day, Calls for Courage in Defending Rights
Franco-British International University, Kaduna (FBIU), has, on Tuesday, 10th December 2025, joined the global community in commemorating the 2025 World Human Rights Day.
The 2025 World Human Rights Day, themed “Human Rights Day: Our Everyday Essentials,” brought together students, staff, and human rights activists to raise awareness about the importance of human rights in everyday life.
The event was graced by Comrade Senator Shehu Sani, CON, a renowned human rights activist and President of the Civil Rights Congress of Nigeria (CRCN).
In his welcome address, the VP Admin, Mr. Agwaza Bemdoo, explained the purpose of the event and urged students to make the most of the lecture, emphasizing that informed voices are the foundation of a just society.
He added that considering the happenings in the country today, Nigeria needs people who can stand and advocate for their rights.
During the event, many activists delivered presentations on various topics, including Right to Freedom: Insecurity and Peace, Right to Education, and Right to Healthcare, each highlighting how these essentials shape the quality of life in our community.
In his lecture presentation, the Provost of the University, Dr. Auwalu Lawan Danbuzu reflected on the relevance of the 2025 theme to the FBIU community, emphasizing the importance of dignity, safety, and access to quality education in nurturing responsible citizens.
He added that the theme speaks directly to the everyday realities students face, realities that demand awareness and responsibility.
In his remarks, the keynote speaker, Comrade Senator Shehu Sani, CON, described it as an honor to address the gathering on a historic day marked globally to celebrate and interrogate the ideals, context, and collective value of human rights.
He explained that the theme, Human Rights and Everyday Essentials, reminds the world that one cannot defend what one does not understand, stressing that knowledge of one’s rights is the first step toward resilience and resistance.
He commended the management of the university for organizing the event and pledged his continued support for FBIU initiatives.
In his address, the Founder and Chairman Governing Council, heavily represented by the Director, Founder’s Office, Dr. Ado Muhammad Sani, stated that human rights remain universal essentials for our collective dignity, and whenever they come under threat, it becomes the responsibility of all to rise and safeguard our common humanity.
He stressed that these rights are the bonds that hold societies together, and without them, conflict becomes inevitable, whether at the national, state, or grassroots levels.
In his closing remarks, (Dr.) Abdullahi Ibrahim Mirnga, the Ag. Vice President Campus Life, expressed heartfelt appreciation to everyone who contributed to making the event meaningful, inspiring, and impactful.
He extended gratitude to Comrade Senator Shehu Sani for honoring the invitation and acknowledged the students for their active participation.
He urged the University community to carry the message beyond the auditorium, reminding them that humanity begins with how we treat one another in classrooms, on campus, and across society.
