FBIU Adopts American Education Model for Global Relevance
Franco-British International University, Kaduna, has formally approved the shift from the British-style education system to an American-modeled system.
The approval followed a comprehensive two-day seminar convened to examine the strategic benefits, structure, and implementation framework of the new academic model.
The workshop, held between 11th and 12th November, aimed to equip the staff of the University with the knowledge and operational framework of the new system for effective service delivery and institutional growth.
In his presentation, the Director of the Institute of Africa Higher Education Research and Innovation (IAHERI), Professor Abubakar Sadiq Haruna, a seasoned academic and expert in higher education systems, gave an in-depth exposition on the new system of operation.
He noted the fundamental principles and structure of the American system of education, emphasizing its flexibility, and students-centeredness.
Prof. Abubakar, who spoke extensively on performance and institutional effectiveness, reiterated the need for faculty to realign their methods of teaching, administration, and assessment in line with the new system.
According to him, the American system is a global model of education that emphasizes innovation, research, and academic freedom.
He added that the adoption of this model presents an exceptional opportunity for FBIU to rise, compete, and collaborate globally with other world-class institutions of learning.
Other key areas discussed during his presentation included the academic and administrative structures of the American system, an overview of the grading system, and a detailed comparison between Nigerian and American student nomenclatures.
In his closing remarks, the Vice Chancellor of FBIU, Prof. Abdullahi Sabo Muhammad, described the transition as an important step toward aligning FBIU with international best practices in higher education, noting that the new system had been approved by the University Senate and would take immediate effect.
Prof. Sabo lauded the Founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo for his visionary leadership, commitment, and dedication in bringing transformative ideas that would strengthen the academic foundation of the University.
He expressed appreciation to the resource person for his enlightening presentation and commended the participants for their active engagement throughout the sessions.
