Our History

The idea of establishing the Franco-British International University (FBIU) in Nigeria was the brainchild of Professor Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, a renowned educator and scholar who is also the Sarkin Yaki da Jahilci (Warrior King of Illiteracy) of Africa. Professor Gwarzo has been a pioneer in the field of education for many years, and his vision for FBIU was rooted in his passion for providing world-class university education to enthusiastic Nigerians without having to go abroad for schooling.

The idea of establishing a university that combined both French and British academic styles was a novel concept in Nigeria, and Professor Gwarzo's vision was seen as a bold and visionary move. The aim was to create an institution that would attract foreign students to Nigeria and also provide Nigerian students with access to a truly international education.

The Franco-British International University was officially founded in 2023 alongside the Canadian University of Nigeria (CUN) by Professor Gwarzo. The university was established in Kaduna City, located in the northwestern region of Nigeria. The location was chosen for its strategic position and accessibility.

FBIU is unique in that it offers an academic style that combines the best of both French and British educational systems. The curriculum is designed to provide students with a broad-based education that equips them with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in their chosen fields. They have employed the services of renowned scholars and experts from around the world, who bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the classroom.

Prior to the establishment of FBIU and CUN, Professor Gwarzo founded two other universities, the Maryam Abacha American University of Niger in 2013 and the Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria in 2021. These universities were established with the same vision of providing access to quality education to students in Nigeria and Africa at large.

In summary, the founding of the Franco-British International University in Nigeria by Professor Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo represents a major milestone in the country's educational landscape. The university's unique approach to education, combined with its commitment to community service and social responsibility, has positioned it as a leading institution in Nigeria and Africa at large.
